Stock vs. Semi-Custom vs. Custom Kitchen Cabinets

Stock cabinets are pre-built in fixed sizes, semi-custom cabinets are factory lines you configure from a catalog, and custom cabinets are designed and built for your exact walls. The difference shows up in fit, finish options and who actually builds and installs them.

Semi-custom lines typically come in widths that increase in 1-inch increments, so the last few inches of a wall get closed with filler strips. A custom cabinet is cut to the exact dimension — no fillers, no dead corners, no "close enough."

Is a big-box store's "custom" cabinet the same as a truly custom kitchen?

Not necessarily — "custom" in a big-box program can mean a made-to-order line from an outside manufacturer, ordered through the store and installed as a separate service. Home Depot, for example, tells customers to expect custom or semi-custom cabinets to be manufactured and delivered within 4–12 weeks, with installation as a separate step after delivery.

That isn't a bad option. But before you sign with anyone, ask three questions: who builds the boxes, where, and who installs them? With us, the answer to all three is the same team, in the same building, in Coral Springs. That's what custom means.

Professional Install — Our Own Crew

Our installation crew (no subcontractors) delivers and installs your kitchen with precision. Most installs are completed in 2 to 3 days. Clean, exact and done right.

What's Included When We Install Your Kitchen

We hand over a finished, working kitchen — not a pile of boxes: cabinets, countertops, appliances connected and running, and integrated LED lighting, all coordinated and installed by our team.

  • Cabinetry — base, wall, tall, island and pantry units, built to measure.
  • Countertops — quartz and stone, measured and installed to fit the finished cabinets.
  • Appliances — fitted into the cabinetry, connected and left working: ovens, cooktops, refrigerators, dishwashers, wine coolers.
  • Lighting — under-cabinet, in-cabinet and accent LED, when your design includes it.
  • Hardware — Blum soft-close hinges and drawer runners standard; handles or handleless profiles.

What we don't do is general contracting — walls, flooring and structural changes stay with your contractor, and we work around their schedule.

Premium Materials & Finishes

Every material is selected for South Florida’s climate —
humidity-resistant, durable and built to look beautiful for years.

Our standard fronts are factory-finished surfaces that won't peel or yellow. When your design calls for it, we also build doors with a painted finish in solid colors — white, gray, navy or your own.

Quartz Countertops

Premium Hardware

Blum soft-close hinges, full-extension drawer runners and designer handles — standard on every kitchen we build. No upgrades needed.

Will Custom Cabinets Hold Up to South Florida Humidity?

Yes — when the cabinet box is matched to where it lives. Our standard boxes are premium engineered panels with moisture-resistant cores, and where a kitchen needs more — the sink base, wet zones, a laundry wall or an outdoor kitchen — we build the boxes in plywood or HDPE. Blum soft-close hardware is standard on every drawer and door.

  • Main cabinet runsMoisture-resistant engineered panelsFlat and stable across a full run of cabinets, with every edge sealed.
  • Sink & dishwasherPlywood boxesExtra strength and water tolerance where leaks and steam happen.
  • Laundry & wet wallsPlywood or HDPEChosen during the 3D design, zone by zone.
  • Outdoor kitchensHDPE boxesHDPE doesn't absorb water — built for the patio, the rain and the salt air.

Each choice has a job. Moisture-resistant engineered panels like Sonae Arauco's Tafipan P3 MR are rated for kitchen and bathroom furniture in humid conditions. On the hardware side, Blum tests its TANDEMBOX drawer system with 100,000 open-and-close cycles under load — the kind of testing a kitchen drawer that opens dozens of times a day actually needs.

In our shop, panels are cut on our own CNC and every exposed edge is sealed with edgebanding on our own machines, so no core is left open to humid air. You see a photorealistic render of your actual kitchen — layout, finishes, lighting — and approve it before a single panel is cut. The render you approve is the kitchen you get.

WHY WE ARE DIFFERENT

A True In-House Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturer — Locally Owned, Not a Franchise

Most kitchen cabinet “companies” in Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and South Florida are showrooms — they show you catalog options, then outsource manufacturing to brands or out-of-state factories. Every handoff adds time, markup and another company between you and the people building your kitchen. Custom Closet Florida is different.
We design, manufacture and install every kitchen cabinet in our own Coral Springs facility, with our own team. Full control. No middlemen. No markup.

What moves the number

  • Size and layout — amount of cabinetry, an island, a pantry wall, tall units.
  • Door style and finish — flat-panel, shaker, high-gloss, wood-look, painted, real wood veneer or handleless gola.
  • Box material — standard moisture-resistant panels, or plywood/HDPE where the zone needs it.
  • Interior hardware — pull-outs, drawer organizers, corner solutions, lift-up doors.
  • Countertops, appliances and LED — material, number of integrated appliances, lighting.

Because we manufacture in-house, there's no distributor, brand or franchise markup in those numbers — your budget goes to materials and craftsmanship. See financing options →

Custom Kitchen Cabinets FAQ — South Florida

The most common questions from homeowners across Boca Raton,
Fort Lauderdale, Weston and South Florida about custom kitchen cabinets.

How much does a custom kitchen cost in South Florida? +
Custom kitchen cabinets in South Florida typically range from $18,000 to $75,000+ depending on kitchen size, materials, finishes and accessories. Full luxury renovations in Boca Raton and Weston can exceed $100,000. Because we manufacture in-house in Coral Springs, there's no distributor, brand or franchise markup in that price. We provide a free 3D design and a detailed, transparent quote before you commit — and financing options are available.
How long does it take to build and install? +
Most kitchens are built and installed within 4 to 6 weeks of approving your 3D design. The actual installation takes 2 to 3 days. We manufacture locally in Coral Springs, so there's no cross-country shipping window and no waiting on a third-party installer.
Do you really design, build and install everything yourselves? +
Yes. We are not a showroom and we don't subcontract manufacturing. Custom Closet Florida designs, manufactures and installs every kitchen cabinet with our own team and our own equipment, in our own Coral Springs facility — the same team from first measurement to final install.
Do you install countertops and appliances? +
Yes. We deliver the finished kitchen: quartz and stone countertops installed, appliances fitted, connected and working, and integrated LED lighting when your design includes it. What we don't do is general contracting — walls, flooring and structural work stay with your contractor.
Are your kitchen cabinets made of solid wood? +
No — and that's on purpose for South Florida. Our standard cabinets are premium engineered panels with moisture-resistant cores and sealed edges, which stay flat and stable in humid homes. Where a zone needs more, like the sink base or an outdoor kitchen, we build the boxes in plywood or HDPE. Fronts come factory-finished, painted, or in real wood veneer when your design calls for it.
Is the 3D design really free? +
Yes. Our free in-home consultation and 3D kitchen design come with zero obligation. We visit your home anywhere in South Florida, measure your exact space and design your kitchen in full 3D at no cost. You approve every detail before we build anything.
